Reynoldsburg Memorial Day Activities
On Friday May 27th, at 5:00 p.m., a flag ceremony was held by American Legion Reynoldsburg Post 798 at the the Silent Home cemetery at 1576 Lancaster Avenue. The cemetery is overseen by Truro Township, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Prior to the ceremony, there was a short Memorial Day honor service, given by Post 798's commander, Tim Dunn. This was followed by the flag ceremony itself, executed by the post's Sergeant-at-arms, Bob McPherson, and the 1st Vice Commander, Pete Margaritis. The ceremony included lowering and retirement of the existing national standard, followed by a new flag raising.
After the conclusion of the ceremony, headstone flags were placed at the graves of all the veterans at rest within the cemetery's 9-acres, in recognition and remembrance of these fine citizens who gave their all and went before us, as well as all other American veterans at rest. (See photos)
Post 798 to Sponsor Four Reynoldsburg
Juniors to Buckeye Boys State
Reynoldsburg Post 798 is proud to sponsor four outstanding young men to attend this year's Buckeye Boys State (BBS), American Legion's premier hands-on youth program, to be held at Bowling Green State University from June 11th to June 19th, 2011. The four candidates, all from Reynoldsburg High School, have excellent academic records, and are each fully qualified and eager to attend this momentous event. The four chosen individuals are:
- Andrew Tempelmen
- Seth M. Alexander
- Marcus Andrews
- Benjamin Kister
These qualified, fine young men will soon be attending a BBS orientation seminar in Columbus before embarking on this intense workshop in Ohio Government. Governor Kasich is scheduled to attend the event and speak to the assembly, estimated this year to be around 1,200 youths coming from all over Ohio.
Congratulations to our four winners! They will ably represent Reynoldsburg in this classic event. And perhaps one or more of them will be elected Governor! Or perhaps be one of the few chosen to later attend Boys Nation in Washington D.C., where they will have the honor of meeting with the President of the United States.
Unfortunately, no young ladies were selected to attend this year's female equivalent program, Buckeye Girls State. However, that will not happen next year.

Reynoldsburg Places in District Chili Cookoff
On the afternoon of Saturday, November 6th, the Ohio 12th District Council held a chili cookoff at Bexley Post 430. Winning 2nd place in the "Hot and Spicy" category was Reynoldsburg Post 798's 1st Vice Commander Pete Margaritis, with his unique "Klingon Chili" recipe. Many of those voting for this singular entry commented that they were surprised by its very warm, full, spicy flavor, impressed with the chili's anomalous 'alien presentation', and amused by reading the accompanying detailed written brief of Klingon Chili(tlhIngan thlIQ).
"So what was the green meat?" someone asked. Margaritis shrugged. "Klingon ghab tun."One then learned that was the boneless midsection of a freshly-slaughtered (ghob) animal
from the hunt (chom).
12th District Council Commander Steve Ebersole just shook his head. "Knowing Pete, I'm not a bit surprised," he said dryly. He paused and added, "But it was good."
